Goodbye to SOMI Marketing Team!

The high point of coming to work every day was to laugh with you, celebrate targets and play the awesome office PRANKS (kabalo ko ako leader ani..haha!). Even though I am excited about the new career, I am also deeply sad about leaving my friends and colleagues. I had a wonderful experience working with you and learned many new things which I am sure will help me in my next career. I wish that my new work also provides me with a great team like you all.

The time that I have spent in SOMI is one of the best times of my life. =)

Birthday Trip:Backpacking in Dumaguete City

This past week has been a profound reminder that I am loved and I’m left feeling beyond grateful and totally inspired. Since living independently for almost a decade, I’ve seldom had a happy birthday. This year, however, my birthday was beautifully spent. I celebrated it in a quaint and bustling city of Dumaguete in Negros Occidental.

Early morning at Rizal Boulevard
Going in a city where we don't know a single soul was a fun and invigorating experience.

Celebrating my birthday with my best buddy didn't only exempt me from the requisite birthday treat; it also made my special day meaningful and memorable. (Thanks Russel) =)

Built in the year 1811, the Dumaguete Belfry or Bell Tower was used by the early locals as a way of avoiding pirate attacks.
St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral
It has been said that Jose Rizal made a stopover here and strolled around before leaving for Dapitan where Spanish officials had him exiled.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends who greeted me via SMS and Facebook. Thank you very much for being so sweet and thoughtful. I feel so blessed to have all of you. Thank you for taking the time to greet me and for making my day extra special.

There so many things to be thankful for, so many accomplishments to celebrate, but there were also some heartaches and sadness to learn from.  All of it continues to mold me into the person I am today.

Road Trip: South of Bukidnon

The highlands of Bukidnon literally explode with breathtaking sceneries from its cool climate to rugged mountains, plateaus, canyons, lakes, springs, vast pineapple and farms.
Together with my high school classmates (Einstein 05), we decided to take the road trip to the south (Maramag-Quezon) and explore those majestic charms of our homeland.

The Ver Overview renders a panoramic vista of the expansive rolling hills, plains and valleys.

I immediately grabbed my camera bag and went downhill to see what it has to offer. Indeed, seeing the vast valleys and mountain ranges all over Bukidnon offered a natural high. The cold breeze in mid-afternoon and the sun starting its plunge gave that breathtaking sense of freedom and serenity.

I would say it was a extraordinary mixture of architecture, nature and culture.

36th National Milo Marathon

The sound of the starting gun was like a shot of adrenalin in my arm and I was off with about 20,000+ other runners.   By the time we made the first turn I was just exuberant with the thrill of passing so many people and was sure I’d hit or exceed my time threshold.
I thought that I would not enjoy running and that it would be too painful and would be hard on my joints.
It was a great marathon experience. The best thing is that I learned another lesson that my determination and drive will lead me to wherever I want to go, be in marathon or in my everyday life.

2nd SOGC Badminton Tournament

Sports strips away personality, letting the white bone of character shine through.  I really believe that Sports gives person an opportunity to know and test themselves.

It's been a while since I went back in Badminton ( I stop for years..haha!). And until now I still love this sport, the energy and action that it gives to me.
And yes, I made it again! Champion Men's Doubles and Power Smasher Award. Thank you 2nd SOGC Badminton Tournament organizers and to the Red Bull Team.

I had a wonderful birthday!

Thank you very much for making my day extra-special. My birthday was indeed a celebration of God's goodness, of fellowship and of friendship. With much sincerity and happiness I thank everyone who greeted me during my birthday. Each greeting really meant a lot to me and absolutely made my day.Just wanted to say, thank you for all the birthday wishes. It is very overwhelming and touching to know people remembered and took even a little time and effort of to greet me. Your messages mean a lot and keep me strong and passionate and courageous and even loving about what I do. I had a wonderful birthday!
Thanks Chikaan for the Birthday song and to my highschool classmates!

The Past Never Returns

To let go of someone doesn't mean you have to stop loving, it only means that you allow that person to find their own happiness without expecting them to come back. Letting go is not just setting the other person free, but it is also setting yourself free from all fears, bitterness, hatred and anger that you keep in your heart.

The past never returns but the future may still fulfill the loss. A great 2012 to all of us! Happy New Year! *cheers*

The Mystique Island of Siquijor

Who said that the province of Siquijor is one of the scariest place in the Philippines because of witchcraft and sorcerers? I strongly disagree with this thought. Those are just old folklore beliefs. I can prove through my pictures that Siquijor is one of the best place in the Philippines because of its rich natural treasures.

There are so many activities you can do in Siquijor. It’s called the Island of Fire because at night, Siquijor’s mountains are blazing because of its richly populated fireflies.
San Isidro Labrador Parish (Lazi Church) The church complex was built by the Augustinian Recollects in the latter half of the 19th century.
Acclaimed to be the oldest and the biggest convent in Asia.
Siquijor is filled with so much nature adventure. Its mountains, caves, beaches and old churches.
We only had few days in Siquijor but it was nice to revisit.
Empty roads, white sand beaches, friendly people, great pace even for a quick visit
Once you’ve seen, felt and experienced the radiance and charm of the Philippine’s Island of Fire. I guarantee that you will come back a million times to be ignited with Siquijor’s natural creations all over again.

Dream Big! Changing Lives!

I am a typical Filipino. I party, I play sports, I paint, I hang out with friends. Most of all, I'm passionate about my country. Thus I try to be a model citizen. To me, a global citizen is an advocate of a worthy cause, who promote that cause and pursue that goal, with utmost passion.

It is someone who is devoted, dedicated, and willing to take on responsibility to make the necessary sacrifices for the good of others. A global citizen strives to do more than simply fix things, but rather serves a concerted effort to ensure sustainable empact with in our community.

I Got The Itch to Paint Again!

I really love art and I have been drawing since I was kid. It’s a very absorbing activity. However, I haven't been touched my paint brush for years because of other priorities. Thanks to MSU-IIT Halongkulay Visual Artist, I got the itch to paint again. (I was preparing for my first visual art exhibit together with Halongkulay artist, sponsored by Iligan City Government.)

My first mentors are the artists of ALAB (Association of Local Artist of Bukidnon), they helped me to understand more the meaning of art to our life.

Like a lot of things, painting doesn’t really involve luck. I always try and pull in some luck, but the reality is, you have to know what you are doing; the luck sometimes will show up, but it generally isn’t anything to hang your hat on. You have to know the rules and understand the materials.

I enjoy painting. It may well be an obsolete practice, but the experience of painting, is worth more than the finished piece.

Here are my paintings for Halongkulay Global Warming Art Exhibit (December 2009)

Life of a Student-Leader

It is a difficult job to be a student leader. We receive no allowance, most of the time no thanks you's and yet the general assembly still manages to find faults from us. It is true that we subject ourselves into stress, and a lot of pressure. Being an officer entails a lot of responsibilities that you do not have total control of. If something goes wrong you cannot point fingers to anyone. Because the bottomline is you do not employ them. It also requires one to be always on the move because people expect to much from you. And the fact that you are a public figure and you must bear it. As they say everything comes in a package. As soon as you accepted the benefits, you must also acknowledge with open arms all the tasks attached to it.

Taking on responsibility is interpreted differently by different people. Some take is seriously, and others laugh at it. While others take a deep breath in the face of glitches and forges ahead, disregarding the blood that may run ahead after the impact in the form grades.

In my college life, what i have learned is that Leaders do not develop by themeselves. Leadership is void if he is alone. As what they say, that leaders were also vulnerable, they need people as how much people need them. The student-leaders we have are for free. A little support, a whisper of thank you and on time payment of assesment could help a lot. Yes, you also help in leader building.

But amidst all these, I am very much happy that I have accepted this responsibilty. It's true that my mind, body and soul experienced too much stress and pain in this college life. But those sleepless, worry freak nights which would run for weeks, had helped me see my role in the society. That is to contribute for the well-being of the society.

The Call of Our Nation

It had been a long strenuous trip; I was already bored sitting for about two hours. I was heading from Cagayan de Oro City to Malaybalay, Bukidnon. Along the road I saw a wooden houses, trees and mountains. All these reminded me of my family in Malaybalay. I couldn’t believe that I’m already a college student and taking a degree in Economics at Mindanao State University– Iligan Institute of Technology in Iligan City.

It was already passed 6 o’clockin the evening. I was sitting on a passenger’s seat near the back door of the bus, when suddenly I heard the loud voice of a man talking to someone. My attention was caught so I turned my head to them. It was the ticket collector talking to a young boy sitting on the stairs of the bus. The boy is about 10 years old who is very poor and looks thin, pale and I’m sure he was hungry. The ticket collector asked him how he got in and why he was sitting on the stairs of the bus. In a soft voice, the boy replied that he got in from the bus terminal. He added to the man that he want to go home in Valencia City, a place after Malaybalay City. He doesn’t have any money and he hasn’t eaten for many days, so he begged to the ticket collector to take him a ride for free and he will only sit on the stairs of the bus. But the man didn’t listen to the please of the young boy. When the bus stopped, he ordered the boy to go out.

I really don’t know why the boy is in Cagayan de Oro. I could think many reasons. The first that came into my mind was maybe he was left by his parents or he left his family in Valenciabecause of abuse. But there’s only one thing I’m sure, that there’s a big reason why he wanted to go back to his home. I was so sad because there were many passengers in the bus who saw the young boy. But no one offered anything even just only a coin for food. Mostly of the passengers are professionals and I’m sure they have enough money but they just ignored what they have seen. I was just hurt watching the young boy begging and the people around him. I really felt the emotion brought by the young boy. I want to help him but my money was enough for fare and I have only a P10 coin in my pocket. When the boy went out in the bus, I called him from the window and I gave my P10. I told him to buy it for food. I felt sorry for that was only I can do for him.

The situation of the boy was really difficult. I just have thought that what if we were the boy in the bus? Can we still have a time for playing which the children usually did? We’ve all been kids in our lives. And because childhood is one point when we all could dream, some of us probably wants to become a policeman, a teacher or a doctor when we grow up. But I’m just thinking that how the young boy dreamed for his future. He already entered the dirty and selfish world of adults at his young age.

The scene of the young boy and the people around him reflects the mirror of our country at present. There are lots of people in our country who have the power and wealth, but they just think of themselves first. They just ignore what they have seen around, the poor family who have lived in slum areas, side walks, squatters and in under the bridge.

Poverty is the biggest problem of our nation today. It results into different crimes like robbery, murder, kidnapping, drug abuse and many more. The causes of these are the unstable economic condition of our country and some corrupt politicians who are enjoying their positions. And the one who suffers the most are the children. Just see around, they are abused and obliged to work at an early age. They don’t have any time for playing and even dreaming for their future. The rate of uneducated Filipino children has been increasing and only few can afford to a proper education.

Unity and good leadership that is only I could think for a solution of our problem. If we will support our government, then we can stand our country again. Our concern to other people and to our country is very important. We are the inheritors of a glorious past and we must do our responsibilities and that is to serve our nation. It doesn’t mean that we need to become an influential leader or a wealthy person. It’s just only to share what we have to others.

The young boy in the bus is only to remind us that our country needs us. The one who suffers the most of our selfish deeds are the children who are expected to be the hope of our nation in the future. If we will not help them, then one day when we wake up, we will be surprised that our country is already a mirror of poverty, crime and corruption. We must be a better person and then serve the nation in our own unique way. We, the Filipinos must always use our senses to care and to listen the call of our nation.
