Birthday Trip:Backpacking in Dumaguete City

This past week has been a profound reminder that I am loved and I’m left feeling beyond grateful and totally inspired. Since living independently for almost a decade, I’ve seldom had a happy birthday. This year, however, my birthday was beautifully spent. I celebrated it in a quaint and bustling city of Dumaguete in Negros Occidental.

Early morning at Rizal Boulevard
Going in a city where we don't know a single soul was a fun and invigorating experience.

Celebrating my birthday with my best buddy didn't only exempt me from the requisite birthday treat; it also made my special day meaningful and memorable. (Thanks Russel) =)

Built in the year 1811, the Dumaguete Belfry or Bell Tower was used by the early locals as a way of avoiding pirate attacks.

It has been said that Jose Rizal made a stopover here and strolled around before leaving for Dapitan where Spanish officials had him exiled.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends who greeted me via SMS and Facebook. Thank you very much for being so sweet and thoughtful. I feel so blessed to have all of you. Thank you for taking the time to greet me and for making my day extra special.

There so many things to be thankful for, so many accomplishments to celebrate, but there were also some heartaches and sadness to learn from.  All of it continues to mold me into the person I am today.
